Volunteer

Food pantries rely on dedicated and compassionate volunteers to carry out their daily operations. These volunteers play a crucial role in various aspects of the pantry’s functioning, including:

Shopping Assistant, Pantry

Volunteers interact directly with pantry visitors, providing them with a warm and welcoming environment. They will assist clients in selecting grocery items that meet their dietary needs and family size. Other tasks include weighing and sorting donations, stocking inventory, and performing general clean up and organization of the pantry when time permits.

Shopping Assistant, Clothing

Volunteers interact directly with pantry visitors, providing a warm and welcoming environment. They will assist clients with their monthly selection of clothing for the children in their household. This includes removing clothing from hangers, counting and bagging selected items. Other tasks include sorting and organizing donated clothing, restocking racks as needed, and general clean up and organization of the clothing closet and sorting area as time allows.

Rescue Food Organizer

Volunteers do not have direct contact with our pantry visitors. They assist with dating, organizing, and stocking donated rescue food products we receive from local partner organizations on Tuesday mornings. Other tasks can include breaking down boxes, wiping down tables and carts, and general prep to be ready to open for morning hours.

Food Carry-out

Volunteers interact directly with pantry visitors. They will assist clients with taking their groceries and other items out to their vehicles. Other tasks include weighing and logging donations, restocking shelves, sorting and organizing donations and general clean up of the pantry.

Food Courier

Volunteers are responsible for going to local partner organizations to pick up donated products and transporting them to the Grimes Storehouse Food Pantry prior to our open hours. Other tasks include helping to unload and weigh donated products, and if able, returning plastic bins to the respective organization. Covered vehicles are preferred for weather purposes.

Receptionist

Volunteers have direct contact with the pantry visitors, providing them with a warm and welcoming environment. They are responsible for greeting visitors, updating database records, and supplying clients with monthly handouts. Training on the DMARC database is required for this position, as well as basic Excel knowledge.

Committee Members

As a committee member, you develop and implement plans for the improvement and future of the pantry. We have openings for the following committees: Operations, Community Engagement (Marketing and Communications), and Finance.

Board of Directors

As a member of the board of directors, you are responsible for helping shape the pantry’s strategy and the community’s collective impact. By serving on the board, and participating in sub-committees, you will support the mission and vision of the Grimes Storehouse to provide food to those in need with dignity and respect.

Youth Volunteers (Ages 14 and up)

Volunteers will help date, sort and organize donations received. Other tasks include restocking shelves and helping with general clean up. Silver cord hours earned for time worked.

Volunteers are a critical asset to food pantries! Their dedication and enthusiasm play a significant role in the pantry’s ability to serve the community effectively.
